Creative Sonoma’s ArtSurround Grantee Sara Downing and iampetaluma’s Cinda Gilliland
are pleased to announce the completion of the public art project VISUALIZARch
created by Sara Downing.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at Putnam Plaza on Sunday June 25th at 2pm.
VISUALIZARch multi-phase project beginning in September 2022 with
a series of photo sessions including gathering of written intentions, desires and observations from
participating Petaluma residents. The project culminates in a kinetic, interactive public
installation created with an intention to increase delight, interaction and inclusivity for all
Petaluma residents and visitors.
iampetaluma is a vehicle for learning how to build community together through ownership and
activation of our public spaces. Join us in transforming Putnam Plaza into Petaluma’s “outdoor
living room.” Live interactions, artwork, and performance are part of a larger conversation. With
the objective to flex collaborative muscles and start to heal community divides, there is a call for
creative promotion from all participants, including grantors, donors, participants, government
support, local business, and community members.
The ArtSurround program is part of Creative Sonoma’s ongoing activity to encourage more art in
our public realm. “Public art can encourage social cohesion and community pride by reminding
of us what we share as neighbors and friends across this county,” said Supervisor James Gore,
Chair of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors. “The ArtSurround program offers a view on
what brings us together through the unique lens of our working artists.
